Community alliance partners with marketing school
Mindful Margaret River and the Curtin Business School’s School of Marketing have joined forces to assist the development and implementation of a marketing plan for the South West-based wellbeing alliance.
Dr Graham Ferguson and Dr Siobhan Hatton-Jones took Mindful Margaret River (MMR) representatives through a workshop on Thursday to agree on tasks and outcomes for marketing the work of the volunteer organisation.
Marketing work has begun with a web page and Facebook page (mindfulmargaretriver.org.au; and www.facebook.com/mindfulmargaret river), with the link with the School of Marketing set to stimulate over 300 first and third year students working under supervision to present proposals to Mindful Margaret River.
Curtin staff and students will work voluntarily in project teams and select marketing activities suitable for MMR to reach the large variety of individuals and groups in the region. The students’ proposals will contribute to their course assessment.
Students will also assist MMR in making decisions about effective ways of carrying its work to the wider community.
MMR Chair, Stuart Hicks AO thanked the Curtin University staff and emphasised that MMR’s role of informing people and connecting them with services and providers was central to its work supporting a caring and sustainable community.
“The importance of Mindful Margaret River has increased because of the effect of the coronavirus on people, employment and businesses in the area,” he said.
Mr Hicks said he also appreciated the involvement of the Margaret River Mens’ Shed, whose interest in supporting MMR was publicised recently.
Dr Ferguson and Dr Hatton-Jones also met users of mental wellbeing services, and some providers as well as several community members of Transition Margaret River.
The work will continue through the year.
Mindful Margaret River is an alliance of mental wellbeing professionals, government agencies, community members and the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River to promote health and wellbeing in the Shire.
