3000 Generations and the Next One

01/11/2023 @ 5:30 pm 8:30 pm

Presented by Wadandi Elder Dr Wayne Webb and MRBTA Chair, Stuart Hicks AO.

Wadandi Boodja, the place known today as the Margaret River Region, is the traditional land of the Wadandi Aboriginal people; the Saltwater People. The Wadandi have lived here through the last ice age. They have adapted and survived over tens of thousands of years through an intrinsic knowledge of how to care for, and benefit from, the abundance of this island refugium.

This special presentation with Wadandi Elder, Dr Wayne Webb, and MRBTA Chair Stuart Hicks AO, offers the opportunity to discover what we can all do at the local level to support a vibrant Aboriginal culture and protect country.

Over the last 12 months it has been shared at the 2023 Aboriginal Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies International Symposium, and was received with a standing ovation at the 2022 National Natural Resource Management Conference.

A number of local organisations have now joined forces to provide the whole community with the chance to learn from the wisdom of the Wadandi people through this event. The presenting partners include Undalup Association; MRBTA’s Capes Foundation; Margaret River Wine Association; Margaret River Business Network; Arts Margaret River; Nature Conservation Margaret River Region; Transition Margaret River; Augusta Margaret River Shire and Mindful Margaret River.

The evening will be held on Wednesday 1st November at Nala Bardip Mia (Margaret River Heart) from 5.30pm to 8pm.

Tickets are $20 and include complimentary wine courtesy of the Margaret River Wine Association and a selection of canapes served between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. The presentation will commence at 6.30pm, and will be followed by a Q&A.
