Connection and belonging is essential for our wellbeing and good overall health
Healthy relationships with friends and family along with connection to the local community contribute to everyone’s overall wellbeing.
Social prescribing is a service in primary healthcare where doctors refer patients to non-medical activities like fitness programs, movie clubs, or meditation. It’s gaining global attention as research shows it reduces loneliness and isolation by connecting people to community groups and activities.
Though promising as a healthcare addition, adoption in Australia has been limited. With rising loneliness, especially after pandemic restrictions, health advocates are calling for more social prescribing initiatives.
Locally, there are many free or low-cost community activities, groups, and support services to explore.
Margaret River and surrounding community are full of amazing opportunities to connect and enjoy social activities with like minded individuals.
In the Shire of Augusta Margaret River there are groups for everyone. To find a full list of community groups, view the Rotary Directory list of Clubs and Other community groups.
