Wellbeing

Connection and belonging is essential for our wellbeing and good overall health.  Healthy relationships with friends and family along with connection to the local community contribute to everyone’s overall wellbeing.  There are many ways to connect within our community.

Culture and Arts

Engaging in cultural and creative pursuits increases a sense of connection, reduces loneliness and isolation, and has the potential to build connections with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The Wadandi (Saltwater People) have had continued connection to the boodja where we work and live.  To find out more about local Wadandi culture, visit the Undalup website.

The Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation is the regional corporation for the South West Boojarah region. This region refers to the Wadandi, Bibulmun/Piblemen and Kaneang Noongar language or dialectical groups.  Learn more about Karri Karrak here.

Arts Margaret River exists to support and nurture the work of artists across all disciplines, and to foster a love of the arts within our community.

Social prescribing

Social prescribing is a service in primary healthcare where doctors refer patients to non-medical activities like fitness programs, movie clubs, or meditation. It’s gaining global attention as research shows it reduces loneliness and isolation by connecting people to community groups and activities.

Though promising as a healthcare addition, adoption in Australia has been limited. With rising loneliness, especially after pandemic restrictions, health advocates are calling for more social prescribing initiatives.

Locally, there are many free or low-cost community activities, groups, and support services to explore.
